LIDAR Workshop 11 - 12 May 2010

In this 2 days course you will learn how to use 2D LiDAR data in Definiens software to make your classification result more stabile. Together with the trainer you will go through hands-on, step-by-step exercises. On the second day, you have the possibility to apply the lessons learned on your own data.
OVERVIEW
The hands-on exercises explain one more advanced way to use LiDAR data in Definiens software to extract buildings outlines. In this course you will learn techniques to classify buildings in a much more transferable way. Therefore first the robust and significant features of buildings have to be identified. A very robust characteristic of buildings is the sudden change in elevation at its borders and that they have a very different elevation than their surrounding.

CONTENT

• Get more information out of your elevation data: The Image Filters
• Prevent border effects when creating temporary image layers
• Create Image Objects using the slope layer and ‘Contrast Split Segmentation’
• Classify steep areas using slope information
• Classify ground by measuring the lowest elevation
• Classify buildings using the difference in elevation
• Refine ‘Building’ classification using ‘Area’ feature
• Clean up based on spectral layers, classify spectral similar, adjacent Candidates to Building
• Clean up highly surrounded Objects
